Team USA Sweeps First Day of Pan Am Junior Competition
COLO. SPRINGS, Co. - Team USA performed exceptionally well on Sunday, becoming undefeated at the Pan Am Junior Team Championships 2013 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Playing Chile in the first match of the tournament, USA was victorious in every event, often keeping their opponents from scoring in the double digits. In mixed doubles, Aston Khor and Cherie Chow dominated Bastian Lizama and Paula Lillo 21-8, 21-6. Reigning US Junior National men's singles champion, Alan Shekhtman, defeated Ivan Leon 21-8, 21-5, and US Junior National women's singles champion Christine Yang urgently outperformed Maignacia Henriquez 21-7, 21-3. USA's Willian Cheung and Kenneth Hui faced the men's doubles pair Ivan Leon and Bastian Lizama and came out with a win 21-14, 21-19. And in a match lasting only 15 minutes, Anna Tang and Alena Wang of the USA confidently powered over Maignacia Henriquez and Paula Lillo in the women's doubles, 21-5, 21-3. These wins earned USA 2 points on the team scale allowed the athletes to gain confidence going into the next match. Team USA is scheduled to play Columbia today, July 22nd.
