2013 U.S. Junior Nationals and Coaching Certification

June 29-30     - Qualifiers
July 1            - Registration at Bintang/Open Practice
July 2            - Registration at Bintang/Open Practice, Players/Coach/Team Manager Meeting
July 3-7         - Tournament

Coaching Certification
USAB continues in its efforts to bring coaching standards up to those in other parts of the badminton world and also meet the USOC demands for sports to upgrade its coaching system and structure.  Currently, there is a pathway for coaching certification (CLICK HERE FOR LINK).

Beginning with the 2013 U.S. Junior Nationals in San Francisco, coaches who intend to coach at premier tournaments, coaches will be required to have an appropriate level of certification. This will be introduced in stages. 

Who can coach at the 2013 U.S. Junior Nationals?
- Parents
- Junior Players (must be 16 years and above)
- Club Coaches (individuals employed at a club to coach junior players)
- Independent Coaches (non-parents who independently coaches Junior players) 

Coaching Credentials Requirements at the 2013 U.S. Junior Nationals
1. Parents
- MUST be current USAB members of good standing
- MUST complete the Coaching Competition Course (LINK TO BE PROVIDED FROM February 15, 2013)
- and an on-line USOC Safe Sports Training if this course is ready (LINK TO BE PROVIDED FROM February 15, 2013 if course is ready). 

2. Junior Players (must be 16 years and above)
- MUST be current USAB members of good standing
- must complete the Coaching Competition Course (LINK TO BE PROVIDED FROM February 15, 2013)
- and an on-line USOC Safe Sports Training if this course is ready (LINK TO BE PROVIDED FROM February 15, 2013 if course is ready). 

3. Club Coaches and Independent Coaches:
- MUST be current USAB members of good standing
- MUST have an active background check (CLICK THIS LINK TO REGISTER – note expenses for background checks are the coaches responsibility and costs may vary)
- MUST be a certified Level I or higher in the USAB coaching program (LINK) or
- IF NOT CERTIFIED - for 2013 ONLY – MUST complete the three hour Coaching Competition Course (LINK TO BE PROVIDED FROM February 15, 2013) plus on-line Safe Sports (USOC)
- and an on-line USOC Safe Sports Training if this course is ready (LINK TO BE PROVIDED FROM February 15, 2013 if course is ready). 

Note:

- The Competition Coaching Course can be taught by any Certified Instructor.
- Mohan Subramaniam Director of Coaching and High Performance (mohan@usabadminton.org) will appoint one coach at each Badminton Club which sends juniors to Junior Nationals as a Course Instructor. Areas of the country which do not have dedicated Badminton Clubs may contact Mohan about co-operative learning models.
