USA Badminton Junior Team Opens Competition in the 2011 BWF Junior World Championships in Taiwan


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fourteen USA Badminton junior athletes are competing in the 2011 BWF Junior World Championships beginning today, October 28th in Taiwan.  The event is being held at the Taoyuan County Stadium in Taoyuan City, Chinese Taipei.


Team USA is participating in the Suhandinata Team Cup competition, as well as in all individual disciplines with a full roster. The competition for the Suhandinata Team Cup championships is scheduled for October 28-31.  Team USA opened competition in Group W today with losses to Malaysia and Hong Kong.  The United States Team will next face Canada tomorrow, October 29th.  Individual competition will begin on November 2nd and conclude on November 6th.


The state of California has long been a hub of badminton excellence and that continues to hold true as thirteen athletes, as well as head coach Zi Min Cai (Orange, Calif.), representing the U.S. at the 2011 BWF Junior World Championships hail from the Golden State.
