USA Badminton

Another USA Silver on Final Day of Pan Ams

Oct. 21, 2011, 1:46 p.m. (ET)

Team USA wrapped up a successful badminton competition today in Guadalajara with one final chance to increase the U.S. gold medal tally. Unfortunately, and despite a great effort, Halim Haryanto Ho (West Covina, Calif.) and Eva Lee (Orange, Calif.) lost a very tight match to the Canadian pair of Grace Gao and Toby Ng, 13-21, 21-9, 17-21.

The pair was playing the second final of the badminton competition for Team USA, looking to add to the gold won by Howard Bach (San Francisco, Calif.) and Tony Gunawan (Los Angeles, Calif.) who claimed gold in the men’s doubles final yesterday.

Ho adds his mixed doubles silver medal to the silver he won yesterday in the men’s doubles competition with teammate Sattawat Pongnairat (Long Beach, Calif.). Lee adds a silver medal to the bronze medal she won in women’s doubles play with teammate Paula Lynn Obanana (Minneapolis, Minn.).

In the women’s double draw, Iris Wang (Arcadia, Calif.) and Rena Wang (Arcadia, Calif.) wowed the crowds at the badminton venue and leave the Games with a silver medal.

The U.S. badminton team ends Pan Am Games play one gold medal, three silver medals and two bronze medals, and leaves Guadalajara both highly motivated and with a focus on the 2012 London Olympic Games.
