Bay Badminton Center Hosts 2011 Bay Badminton Championships


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Top U.S. and international badminton athletes competed in the 2011 Bay Badminton Championships hosted by the Bay Badminton Center in Burlingame, Calif., July 8-10.  Many athletes honed their skills at this event in preparation for the 2011 U.S. Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championships which is being held at the Orange County Badminton Club in Orange, Calif., July 12-17.


Several athletes that were recently nominated to the 2011 United States Pan American Games Team won medals at the 2011 Bay Badminton Championships.  Eva Lee (Orange, Calif.) and Paula Obanana (Mountain View, Calif.) won gold in the women’s doubles A division.  Lee, a 2008 U.S. Olympic Team member and Halim Haryanto Ho (Milpitas, Calif.), 2001 World Badminton Champion for Indonesia, teamed up to win gold in the mixed doubles A division.  Ho also won gold in the men’s doubles A division, teaming with 2004 Olympic gold medalist in men’s singles and 2005 World Champion in men’s singles Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia.
