Since its inception and opening in January of 2011, Boston Badminton has become one of the nation’s premier badminton facilities. It has emerged outside the Boston area as a place for badminton athletes to play at all skill levels, from nightly recreation to Olympic-caliber training. The club has attracted a large amount of interest this year from players, coaches, and officials in the community and it is not difficult to find reasons why people love coming to Boston Badminton.
Located about 40 minutes outside of downtown Boston in Westborough, the club boasts a more than 32 foot ceiling and 8 courts. The specialized facility also uses four Olympic quality badminton mats, Ultralux High Bay lights with BlueMax lamps and a Robbins Bio channel Classic maple sports floor to allow for peak performance. These features have helped the club become a top hosting site for national tournaments (the 2012 USAB Team Trials on December 2-4 the upcoming Junior International Trials to be held April 6-8, 2012) and the prestigious Boston Invitational Team Tournament, a competition of top teams from the Northeast, from Canada to Washington D.C. Boston Badminton’s Head Coach, Andy Chong, also acts as the current coach of Team USA and his presence continues to help promote the club as its national dominance evolves. With the USA Badminton Fall Board of Directors Meeting in Boston Badminton this year, it was a great opportunity for USAB’s senior officials to see the facility and meet with its leadership. These events have been influential in the sport’s growth on the East Coast and especially as Boston Badminton continues to develop.
