USA took on the hard working Brazil team in their second tie in Group X. USA's focus was to try out a different line up to prepare against host, Peru. Unlike in the tie against the Dominican Republic, USA gave young talent Iris Wang a break.
Rena Wang took on Yasmin Cury. Rena's all round control gave her the edge to win in a comfortable 21-9, 21-11. The second singles was between seasoned Eva Lee against Fabiana Silva. Eva's pace of play and experience was too much for Fabiana. Eva won 21-13, 21-14 without much difficulty. Next was newly crowned 2010 Girl's Pan Am YOG (Youth Olympic Games) Champion, Cee Ketpura. Cee was up against Renata Faustino, Brazil's talent from Rio de Janeiro. Renata tried hard as she could to save Brazil as USA was already 2-0 up but Cee's skills and movement were too much for her. Cee took the match and tie for USA in straight games, 21-13, 21-15.
In the first doubles, seasoned Olympians, Eva Lee/Mesinee Mangkalakiri came in for USA as the anchor doubles. They played flawlessly and clinically finished off Fabiana Silva/Marina Eliezer 21-7, 21-9 in 13 minutes. The second doubles and final match was merely academic. USA played Kuei Ya Chen/Priscilla Lun against Paula Pereira/Thayse Cruz. There was no pressure on the USA pair and they won 21-10, 21-19.
Overall USA played well as a team, cheering and supporting each other. USA was sharpening up for their big match against Peru today ( February 20, 2010) at 12:00pm.
