Thomas Cup Qualifier: USA 3 , Jamaica 2
February 19 - USA's second tie in Group A was against Jamaica. USA found Jamaica to be no pushovers. Nicholas Jinadasa came in as first singles for USA against Jamaica's experienced Charles Pyne. Nicholas fought hard throughout the entire match, but Pyne's experience gave him the edge. The final score was 21-15 , 21-19 in favor of Pyne. The second singles was between Arnold Setiadi and Gareth Henry. Arnold set a fast pace, however, Gareth managed to keep up. The match went to three games and Gareth's powerful smashes helped him to win 21-16 , 17-21 , 21-17.
With USA 0-2 down, Sattawat Pongnairat went to the courts as third singles against excited Jamaican, Garon Palmer. Garon was also playing with a very heavy responsibility as he was expected to get a win for Jamaica. Sattawat kept his cool and took control of the match and piled the pressure on the Jamaican player. Sattawat's 21-17 , 21-11 win gave USA a breather.
Sattawat's heroic performance motivated USA's first men's doubles pair, Vincent Nguy/Sameera Sameera. Pyne Charles/Coke Dennis representing Jamaica. From the beginning, Vincent and Sameera took control of the game with their fast pace. Charles Pyne/Dennis Coke never had a chance. The USA pair won 21-11 , 21-13 and this put the tie at two all.
Arnold Setiadi/Daniel Gouw came in as second doubles against Garron Palmer/Gareth Henry. Their pace, net control and experience proved too much for the Jamaicans. Arnold/Daniel wrapped up the match and tie for USA in 25 minutes winning 21-10 , 21-17.
Overall, Team USA proved that they can play under pressure and perform stronger opponents.
