Bach and Gunawan win Bronze at Hong Kong Open

Colorado Springs, CO – USA Badminton’s Howard Bach (San Francisco, CA/ Orange, CA) and Tony Gunawan (Orange, CA) proved their skills once again as they brought home the bronze in the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open Super Series at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong, China from December 6 to December 12, 2010.

Bach and Gunawan eased through their first match against Chinese Taipei’s Chieh Min Fang and Sheng Mu Lee—ranked number three in the world—two games to none (21-14, 22-20). Following that win, Bach and Gunawan got off to a rough start during the first game, but then edged England’s Robert Blair and Indonesia’s Flandy Limpele two games to one (9-21, 21-16, 21-19). Next, Bach and Gunawan defeated Biao Chai and Zhendong Guo of China two games to none in the quarterfinals (21-15, 21-14). Reaching the semifinals, they lost two games to none against Korea’s Sung Hyun Ko and Yeon Seong Yoo (16-21, 19-21). Sung Hyun Ko and Yeon Seong Yoo, world ranked # four, eventually went on to win gold in the final tournament match.

Next up, Bach and Gunawan look to start off the New Year with a win at the Victor Korea Open Super Series in Seoul, South Korea.
