ELITE ATHLETE HEALTH INSURANCE (EAHI)

                                                           

A.  Number of EAHI slots allocated:  5

 

B.  Eligibility and Criteria Approved for EAHI:

 

Up to 5 athletes will be offered EAHI based on the following prioritized order.  All athletes must be currently training and competing in international competitions and have a current Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Ranking for the United States.  Athletes who are non-U.S. citizens will not be offered EAHI unless they are 1) on track to obtain citizenship prior to 2012, 2) have proven they are internationally competitive, and 3) have been identified as potential medal hopefuls for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

 

1)      First priority will be given to all 2011 USAB athletes currently receiving direct athlete support from the USOC.

2)      Second priority will be given to athletes who finish in first place at the 2011 United States Adult National Championships, April 22-24, 2011 in the category of Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, or Mixed Doubles.

3)      Third priority will be given to athletes who finish in second place at the 2011 United States Adult National Championships, April 22-24, 2011 in the category of Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, or Mixed Doubles.

 

If there are more athletes who qualify than EAHI slots, then the slots will be awarded to the athlete(s) who finished in first place, then second place at the 2011 United States Adult National Championships AND have the highest BWF World Ranking following the 2011 United States Adult National Championships.

 

If only one slot is available and both members of a doubles team want the slot, the slot will go unused.

 

Should there be any available EAHI slots left after all eligible athletes have either accepted or declined, those slots will remain unused.
