USAB Advisor for Seniors
Steve Kearney has accepted the volunteer position as USA Badminton Advisors for Seniors. Steve worked for NBC as the Television Badminton analyst at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kearney was the Team Leader for Badminton at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, 2003 Pan Am Games and the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. He also worked for 3 years as the Sports Competition Manager for Badminton at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
He has played competitive badminton since he was 11. He won the National Collegiate men’s doubles title while at San Jose State and was a team member of the National Collegiate Championship at University of California at Los Angeles. He was ranked #3 in the US for Men’s doubles during the late 70’s. He continues to play in numerous Senior events.
From 1994 to 2008 he served as a Board Member, Vice President and President of the Board for USA Badminton. He is past President of the US Badminton Education Foundation. He works for Interteam International in Colorado and also owns American Sports Management, an Event Management Company based in Colorado. Kearney was the Director of Operations for International RoboCup 2007 for Georgia Institute of Technology from 2006 to 2007. RoboCup is a two- week event and an international joint project to promote AI and foster intelligent robotics research (www.robocup-us.org). From 2004 to 2006, Kearney served as the Executive Director for the National Congress for State Games in Colorado, a non-profit corporation promoting multi-sport events in 40 states. He also worked for AT&T and Lucent Technologies in Project Management in California and Atlanta, GA.
Mr. Kearney currently resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
