National Junior Team Tournament

June 11, 2009, 6:36 p.m. (ET)

The first National Junior Team Tournament will be held following the 2009 U.S. Junior National Badminton Championships on July 27 at the Orange County Badminton Club.

All U15, U17 and U19 participants of the Junior Nationals are invited to take part in this tournament.  The top 5 players of each age group have the option to play up, therefore, the top 5 boys and girls of U13 are also invited to participate.

The National Junior Team Tournament will consist of four teams of U15, U17 and U19. The tournament will be played in a round robin format.  In its first year, the organizers will attempt to even up the teams by distributing ranked players in each team.  In the future, this competition may be based on inter clubs or regions.

Each tie will consist of a maximum of 11 matches.  Organizers have the option to adjust the number of matches in each tie, depending on the number of participants.  The goal is to have each team plan a strategy for winning more matches while working with two limitations:  Each player plays a maximum of 2 matches per tie and a minimum of two matches throughout the tournament.

The objectives of the US Junior Team Tournament are to:

  • Develop leadership, camaraderie and team spirit among juniors
  • Provide juniors with an opportunity to collectively build a strategy for winning
  • Create opportunities for new partnerships

In addition to medals and Yonex products to winners, a special award will be given to the team demonstrating the most outstanding team spirit.

Deadline for entries is June 26. The entry form link is attached below with additional information:
