USA Badminton Athletes Advisory Council

All interested and qualified athletes (see USAB bylaws Section 11 under the About Us section at the top of http://www.usabadminton.org/ ) should send their nomination statement of not more than 200 words to the CEO USAB (dcloppas@aol.com ) by February 13, 2009.

The Nominating and Governance Committee has determined that for this initial election, athletes do not need to submit (5) signatures of support from individuals entitled to vote in the election. Additionally, the two year period for USAB National Championships means the 2007 and 2008 National Adult Championships.

 

 

Section 11.3. Election/Selection.

Three (3) individuals shall be elected to the Athletes Advisory Council as follows. An individual who wishes to run for election to the Athletes' Advisory Council and to be placed on the ballot shall obtain at least five (5) signatures of support from individuals entitled to vote in the election. Those individuals: (i) who have represented the United States as athletes in the Olympic Games, the Pan American Games, World Championships, World Team Championships or a USOC designated Operation Gold badminton event within the ten (10) year period prior to December 31 of the year in which the election is held (except in the case of the election following the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, in which case the cutoff point will be within the ten (10) year period prior to the date of election), or (ii) who have competed in USAB's National Championships as athletes within the two (2) year period prior to December 31 of the year in which the election is held (except in the case of the election following the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, in which case the cutoff point will be within the two (2) year period prior to the date of election) shall be eligible to vote in the election. Additionally, in order to be eligible to vote in the election, an individual shall be a citizen of the United States and eighteen (18) years of age or older by December 31 of the year in which the election is held. Further, an individual shall be a member of USAB sixty (60) days prior to the date of the election (record date) in order to be eligible to vote in the election. The election shall take place after conclusion of the Summer Olympic Games, but prior to January 1 of the year following the Summer Olympic Games (except in the case of the election following the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, in which case the election will be held prior to March 31, 2009). The three (3) individuals with the highest vote totals are elected to the Athletes Advisory Council. The fourth (4th) and fifth (5th) positions on the Athletes' Advisory Council shall be filled by USAB's representative and alternate representative to the USOC Athletes' Advisory Council as elected pursuant to Sect. 12.3 hereunder.
