For Immediate Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Earlier this year, the United States Olympic Committee requested and USA Badminton agreed to make fundamental changes in its governance structure, a process that many National Governing Bodies have recently undergone.  The first order of business in the reform process was the drafting and approval of new bylaws for the organization which has been completed.  As USA Badminton takes the next step in governance reform, an independent initial Nominating and Governance Committee has been formed and will be charged with selecting the new board of directors for the organization.

The Nominating and Governance Committee is as follows:

  • Rick Mack, Vice President of Human Resources, Pikes Peak Behavioral Health Group
  • Steve Smith, Partner, Holmes, Roberts & Owen
  • Keith Bryant, Associate Director, Career Services, United States Olympic Committee
  • Mary Ann Bowles, USA Badminton Board Representative, former Board Secretary and Chair of the previous Nominating Committee
  • Howard Bach, Athlete Representative, Two-time U.S. Olympian (2004 and 2008) and 2005 World Champion

With today's announcement, the Nominating and Governance Committee will take on the duties of the Board of Directors and will oversee the organization until a new board is seated.  USA Badminton Chief Executive Officer/Secretary General Dan Cloppas, (Monument, Colo.) will work with the Nominating and Governance Committee and will continue to oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, which he has done since joining USA Badminton as Executive Director in 1999.

In a letter to the outgoing USA Board of Director members, the United States Olympic Committee thanked each of them for their service, not only to the badminton community, but also to the Olympic Movement.  They also expressed appreciation for working with the USOC on reform and for collectively putting the best interest of the athletes at the forefront.

The Nominating and Governance Committee for USA Badminton will take the lead on recruiting, evaluating and selecting the new board of directors for USA Badminton as the organization moves to implement its new bylaws.
