BEIJING (AP) China's Wei Yili and Zhang Yawen won the bronze medal in women's doubles in the Olympic badminton tournament on Friday, defeating Japan's Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna.

After a closely contested first game, the third-seeded Zhang and Wei raced out to a 7-0 lead in the second game and never looked back on their way to a 21-17, 21-10 win over the unseeded Japanese.

Suetsuna and Maeda beat defending Olympic champions and top-seeded Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen of China in the quarterfinals but committed a series of unforced errors to start the second game and couldn't recover.

Japan has never won a medal in Olympic badminton.
