The 2008 U.S. Olympic Teams for Badminton and Table Tennis to Hold Joint Media Availability Tomorrow, August 6 at the Main Press Center in Beijing, China
BEIJING, China - The 2008 United States Olympic Teams for Badminton and Table Tennis will hold a joint media availability session tomorrow, August 6, at the Main Press Center for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. The media availability will begin at 16:00 in Press Conference Room #1 of the Main Press Center.

The media availability will be an opportunity for journalist to speak with U.S. athletes that are participating in two of the most popular sports in China. All four members of the USA Table Tennis Team were born in China and speak the language fluently.
Jun Gaowas born in Baoding, Heibei, China, calls Gaithersburg, Md. home, but has lived and trained in Shanghai, China for the last three years. The 2008 Olympic Games will be the fourth for Gao. She won a silver medal for China in women's doubles at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. She moved to the U.S. following the 1992 Olympic Games and became a citizen before representing the U.S. at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia and Athens, Greece.
Chen Wangwas born in Beijing, where she currently resides and trains. Her U.S. home is New York, N.Y. Crystal Huang was born in Changsha, Hlinan, China and currently resides in San Gabriel, Calif. The 2008 Olympic Games will be the first Olympic Games for Wang and Huang. For David Zhuang, the 2008 Olympic Games will be his third Olympic Games, as he previously competed in 1996 in Atlanta, Ga. and in 2000 in Sydney. Zhuang was born in Guangzhou and makes his home in West Windsor, N.J.
The USA Badminton Team also has a very international flavor with three of its five team members having been born outside the United States.
Howard Bach(San Francisco, Calif./Orange, Calif.) was born in Vietnam before moving to the U.S. with his parents at the age of three. Khan "Bob" Malaythong (Rockville, Md./Orange, Calif.) was born in Laos before his parents moved him to the U.S. as a child. Eva Lee (Orange, Calif.) was born in Hong Kong before her family settled in southern California.
Mesinee "May" Mangkalakiri(Garden Grove, Calif.) and Raju Rai (Atlanta, Ga./Anaheim, Calif.) round out the badminton team. Mangkalakiri's family is of Thai descent and Rai's family descends from India.
Bach is returning for his second consecutive Olympic Games as he competed with Kevin Han in men's doubles at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. In August of 2005 at the World Badminton Championships in Anaheim, Calif., Bach teamed with Tony Gunawan, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist for Indonesia now living in Orange, Calif., in men's doubles to capture the first ever World Badminton Championship title for the United States. Bach will look to recapture that magic this August in Beijing with Malaythong.
Lee will be competing in two disciplines as she qualified in women's singles, as well as women's doubles with Mangkalakiri. Rai will be competing in men's singles.
In attendance at the media availability will be the all athletes and coaches that comprise the 2008 U.S. Olympic Teams for Badminton and Table Tennis.
