Community Olympic Development Program
Information About the Community Olympic Development Program
The United States Olympic Committee has partnered with sport communities across the nation to help America's youth recieve the best sports development services possible. The USOC created the
Community Olympic Development Program (CODP)
in 1998 in order to address the needs of progressing athletes from the beginning stages of development to the elite level.
The mission of the Community Olympic Development Program is to partner with National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and Community Sports Groups to enhance high quality intermediate sports programs for talented youth to maximize their potential in Olympic and Paralympic sports. There are currently 7 Community Olympic Development Programs representing 15 National Governing Bodies.
In order to complete the mission of training talented and motivated young athletes, the CODP works closely with community sports organizations to take young athletes from the beginner level and train them for progression to national governing bodies (NGBs) elite programs.

Archery as a CODP Sport: Springfield-Greene County Parks and Recreation
In June, USOC Media Services also announced that the Springfield-Greene County Parks and Recreation CODP would expand their program to add the sport of archery. Linda Dollar, Springfield-Greene Parks and Recreation Program Manager stated, "Archery becomes our fifth CODP sport and we are delighted to be able to offer opportunities to Springfield youth to experience this sport. With national-level coach Steve Cornell joining our staff, we could not be more excited for this program to get off the ground."
