Texas Shootout Welcomes Best Archers in Nation

College Station, Texas - The American Whitetail Texas Shootout, which opened today under cloudy skies with variable winds, is the final USAT Qualifier Series event of an exciting 2012 season, and the last chance for archers to grab valuable ranking points to secure places on national and World Cup teams.

For cadet archers, the event’s 72 arrow, single distance ranking round determined their final finish for U.S. Archery Team (USAT) ranking purposes, while juniors and seniors will continue to elimination round match play on Sunday.

Recurve Cadet Men

Collin Klimitchek (TX) was a strong shot throughout the day, ending with a 661 and a first place finish. Kent Nitta (CA) was in fifth place after 36 arrows but he finished with a strong final 36 to come in second with a 629. Jake Ohlendorf (CA) also made a strong comeback in the second half. Ohlendorf was in sixth place after the half but finished in third, shooting a 627.

Recurve Cadet Women

It was an all-Junior Dream Team top three, with Jenna Ahn (CA) shooting consistently well all day to finish atop the podium with a score of 623 points. Karissa Yamaguchi (CA), recovering from a slow start, hit a 616 to come in second place. Anna Miscione (CA) wrapped up the top three with a 599.

Compound Cadet Women

It was a tight competition in the Cadet Compound Women’s group, with Emily Fischer (TX) taking the win with 670, three points ahead of Emily Bee (MI), who was in fourth place after the half and shot an impressive 340 to comeback and finish second with a 667. JOAD Grand National Champion, Danielle Reynolds (AZ), shot a 662 and finished in third.

Compound Cadet Men

Chris Bee (MI), who is tied for first place in the Cadet Compound Men’s USAT Rankings, shot a 685 to finish in first place after a very consistent 342 and 343 today.  Greg Fink (MI) trailed close behind, posting a 678; Alexander Olson (IA) put up a 673 to clinch the third podium position.

Recurve Junior Women

Ariel Gibilaro (CT) clinched the top qualifying spot with a 568, shooting a 283 and 285 for the two halves. She is joined in the top three by Shannon Ostling (WA) and Katie Alexander (CA), who posted a 541 and 536, respectively.

Recurve Junior Men

Alex Wifler (IL) shot a very strong 323 in the first half to solidify his first place finish with a 620. Sean McLaughlin (OH) hit a 603 to take the second position, while Nathan Yamaguchi (AZ) finished third with the same score, by tens.

Compound Junior Women

Lexi Keller (WI) came out on top in the final tournament of a very successful year, shooting a 667 to qualify first. Just five points behind was Gabrielle Cyr (ME), hitting a 662, while KayLeigh Rogers (TX) ended her day in third with 652.

Compound Junior Men

Evan Zak (PA) shot a 688, topping out in the first half with 345, and consistent enough in the second with 343. Riley Whiting (UT) finished close behind, managing a 684, while Hunter Martin (TX) shot a 674 for the third spot.

Recurve Men

The top three archers in the Men’s Recurve category consisted of the Olympic silver medal winning team of Brady Ellison (CA), shooting a 664, Jacob Wukie (OH) with a 660 and Jake Kaminiski (CA), who hit a 659.

Recurve Women

Khatuna Lorig (CA), fresh from a White House visit with Team USA on Friday,  shot a 641 to qualify in first. In second place was Olympic Games teammate Jennifer Hardy (Nichols) (TX), shooting a 638. 2012 Olympic hopeful Lori Cieslinski (MI) finished in third place with a 631.

Compound Men

Number one world ranked archer Reo Wilde (ID), preparing for the World Cup Final next week, finished in first place with 708 points. Wilde was trailed by Braden Gellenthien (TX), shooting strong with a 703, and Rodger Willett Jr. (VA), who hit a  701.

Compound Women

Jamie Van Natta (OH) shot a score of 700 points for a first place finish, just three points off her own world record. Tristan Skarvan (TX), who is ranked 20^th in the National Ranking System, shot a 685 to finish in second place.  Sarah Lance (MI) finished in third place with a 685.
