Record Setting Youth Participation at SoCal Showdown

Chula Vista, CA - Cool weather and only a slight breeze provided good shooting
conditions for archers at the 2012 SoCal Showdown. This weekend’s tournament is
a good opportunity for archers to improve on their national rankings before the
season ends next month.
There was record setting youth participation at this year’s
SoCal Showdown. With 139 youth competitors in attendance it is the highest
youth participation at a USAT Qualifier Series event. Event highlights:
Olympic medalist Jacob Wukie shot a 678, 5 points better
than his ranking round in London. 2012 Olympic alternate Joe Fanchin, who was
in third place after 36 arrows, finished strong to move into second with a 671.
No. 1 ranked recurve archer in the world Brady Ellison finished in third place
with a 668.
Khatuna Lorig, who finished fourth at the London Olympic
Games, finished first in the ranking round with a 653. Olympic Team Alternate Heather
Koehl’s 645 put her in second place. 2012 Olympian Miranda Leek, who was in
fourth place at the half, finished strong and edged out Michelle Gilbert for a
third place finish with a 639.
Reo Wilde continued his impressive season by shooting a 710
that put him in first place for the ranking round. No. 2 ranked archer in the
world Braden Gellenthien finished second with a 706. Tim Gillingham, who was in
seventh place at the half, had a strong second half bringing him into third
place with a 703.
The top three scores in the women’s compound division
remained close all afternoon. Jamie Van Natta was able to climb from second
place at the half into first with a 692. Carli Chochran was right behind her
with a 690 and Erika Anschutz was only one point behind Cochran with a 689.
In the Men’s Cadet Recurve division Colin Klimitchek
finished soundly in first place with a 652. Dillon McMenamy was in fifth place
at the half and battled through the final 36 arrows to finish in second place
with a 636. Andrew Mateo rounded out the top three with a solid 630. In the
Women’s Cadet Recurve division Karissa Yamaguchi shot steady all day and
finished in first place with a 637. The 2012 JOAD National Champion Jenny Han
finished in second place with a 624. Right behind Han was Jenna Ahn with a 622.
In the Men’s Cadet Compound division Chris Bee shot a 685
for a first place finish. The 2012 JOAD National Champion Alexander Olson
finished in second place with a 677. Jared Hall was only two points behind
Olson with a 675. In the Women’s Cadet Compound Division Emily Bee had an
excellent showing shoot a 669 for a first place finish. The 2012 JOAD National
Champion, Hunter Jackson, shot a 664 to take second place and Danielle Reynolds
shot a 659 to finish third.
In the Men’s Junior Recurve division Nathan Yamaguchi
finished in first place with a 618. Chris Luman was right behind him with a
616. Anthony Marino shot a 607 to finish in third place. In the Women’s Junior
Recurve division Virgine Chenier (CAN) shot a 603 for a solid first place
finish. Katie Alexander shot a 588 to end in second place and Lanola Pritchard
shot a 585 for a third place finish.
Evan Zak shot a solid 690 to finish in first place for the
Men’s Junior Compound division. Torrey Bonham finished in second place with a
682 and Dustin Clark finished in third with a 664. In the Women’s Junior
Compound division Lexi Keller shot a 683 for a first place finish. Paige
Pearce, who was in third at the half, was able to climb into second place with
a 668. Gabrielle Cyr finished in third place with a 655.
