U.S. team defeats Russia, claims sled hockey gold in Sochi

Sled hockey: Sweeney leads Team USA to 1-0 victory over Russia in gold medal game
Marine Corps veteran Josh Sweeney scored the game-winning goal in the second period, allowing the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team to skate past Russia, 1-0, in the gold medal game at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. With the victory, Team USA becomes the first team to win back-to-back sled hockey gold medals in Paralympic history. The gold medal is the third for the U.S. since 2002. More 

 

Alpine skiing: Heath Calhoun leads Team USA with sixth place in giant slalom
Heath Calhoun led Team USA with a sixth place finish in the men’s giant slalom in the penultimate day of competition at the Rosa Khutor Alpine Center at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games. Today’s competition featured all four veteran members of the U.S. alpine team: Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army, Heath Calhoun; Petty Officer Third Class, U.S. Coast Guard, Chris Devlin-Young; Specialist, U.S. Army, Joel Hunt; and Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps, Jon Lujan. More

Cross-country skiing: U.S. Paralympic Nordic Skiing Team competes in relays
The Paralympic cross-country skiing competition had a different feel today as for the first time in the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games there were no individual races. All teams took part in two relays, the cross-country 4x2.5 kilometer mixed relay and the cross-country 4x2.5km open relay, both new to the Paralympic program. The U.S. fielded teams in both events, finishing sixth in the mixed relay and ninth in the open relay, respectively. More
