Three alpine skiers end season with sweep of national championships

PARK CITY, Utah – Ralph Green, Staci Mannella and Laurie Stephens won back-to-back national titles as the U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing National Team wrapped up its season with the Huntsman NorAm Cup and the slalom and giant slalom national championships in Park City, Utah, March 25-28.
Fresh off of two bronze medals from the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, Stephens (Wenham, Mass.) won the women’s sitting slalom and giant slalom national titles and NorAm slalom race. Sochi silver-medalist Alana Nichols (Farmington, N.M.) won the giant slalom NorAm race.
Green (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Mannella swept all four races over the course of the week. Green was undefeated in the men’s standing class, while Mannella (Randolph, N.J.) and guide Kim Seevers (Averill Park, N.Y.) took the women’s visually impaired races.
Three recently crowned Paralympic medalists added national titles to their lists of 2014 accolades. Heath Calhoun (Bristol, Tenn.), who won super combined silver in Sochi, took the men’s sitting giant slalom title. Two-time Paralympic bronze medalist Stephanie Jallen (Harding, Pa.) won the women’s standing giant slalom title, and 2014 downhill bronze medalist Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the women’s standing slalom.
Other athletes winning national titles included: Jeffrey Peterson and guide Jason Wright (visually impaired giant slalom), Larry Martin and guide Steven Cole (visually impaired slalom) and Trey Humphrey (sitting slalom).
