Marine Cpl. Josue Barron (3) helped lead the Marines to a 51-19 win over Navy.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Marines won the first of their wheelchair basketball competitions against Navy, 51-19, at the 2013 Warrior Games presented by Deloitte on Sunday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The Marines started strong, leading Navy/Coast Guard 21-7 at the half. The second half began with a strong offensive showing by Marine Cpl. Josue Barron (San Diego, Calif.), a part of the Marine's self titled "Fantastic Four" with Sgt. Eric Rodriguez (San Diego, Calif.), and Cpl. Marcus Chischilly (San Diego, Calif.) and Sgt. Anthony McDaniel (Chula Vista, Calif.).
"It's a lot of pressure because we're held at a high standard and we've got it keep it up there," said Barron, finished fifth in the men's handcycle event earlier in the day at the United States Air Force Academy. "There's no slacking for the Marines. We've got to play at the highest level."
Cpl. Ray Hennagir (Orlando, Fla.) led a strong defense to shut down Navy in the second half, earning a 51-19 victory.
"The game is based off of odd men situations, picking somebody out so [I'm] just trying to give our team the best chance possible to get a basket," said Hennagir.
In other wheelchair basketball action, Air Force beat Special Operations 37-26 to start the Warrior Games with a 1-0 record. Air Force won a bronze medal in wheelchair basketball at the 2012 Warrior Games.
