2013 Denmark Wheelchair Rugby Challenge The U.S. wheelchair rugby team won the Denmark Wheelchair Rugby Challenge with a 61-56 win over Australia.

The U.S. Paralympics Wheelchair Rugby Team is back on top.

At the Denmark Wheelchair Rugby Challenge on Sunday, No. 3 Team USA topped No. 1 Australia 61-56 to win the gold medal in Odense, Denmark. The competition is the first major wheelchair rugby event since the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where Australia, Canada and the U.S. medaled.

The final game became an intense fight between the U.S. and Australia. The Aussies, London 2012 Paralympic Games champions, wanted revenge for the defeat in the preliminary round where they lost 48-57, but the Americans wanted to rebound from a disappointing bronze showing in London.

The two teams were close throughout the first half of the match. First period ended 16-16. In the second period the U.S. took the lead by two for a short while, but Australia fought to keep it 30-30.

In the third period the U.S. got in front again, and this time they maintained the lead ending the period leading 45-41. From there, Team USA never looked back at the top ranked Aussies.

The U.S. won the gold match 61-56.
