The Europa Cup wrapped up today in Tarvisio, Italy, after four days of competition. The U.S. Paralympic Alpine Skiing National Team brought home three medals. Seven Top 10 placements were also awarded to the alpine team.
Alana Nichols (Farmington, N.M.), a sit skier, led Team USA with a gold medal in the second downhill sitting event (1:12.34). Nichols took the second place podium in the first downhill sitting event with a time of 1:15.61.
Team USA’s second medal winner was Laurie Stephens (Wenham, Mass.) with her 1:15.97 run to land the bronze medal in the first downhill sitting event, placing her behind Nichols. Stephens also finished fourth in the second women’s downhill sitting event.
Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took fourth place in both first and second downhill standing events. Danielle Umstead also placed fourth in both downhill visually impaired events.
The men’s alpine team had Tyler Walker (Franconia, N.H.) place sixth in both the first and second downhill sitting events with Christopher Devlin-Young (Campton, N.H.) behind in the second event in seventh place.
The team will head to Kimberley, Canada, for the NorAm competition taking place Jan 28-31.
