U.S. women bounced from goalball competition
LONDON – The U.S. women’s goalball team lost to China on Wednesday, ending their bid for a 2012 Paralympic medal. The team could not score, and the quarterfinal game ended in a 5-0 defeat.
“They're the best team here - we knew that coming in,” said coach Ken Armbruster. “We just wished we didn't have to see them until the final game.”
The United States entered the tournament the defending goalball Paralympic champions. They won their games against Sweden and Australia in pool play earlier in the week.
Asya Miller hopes the fans in the U.S. know the team represented their country well. "I hope they say we played with composure and dignity and that we never gave up,” she said. “I hope the folks back home are proud of us."
