Rudy Garcia-Tolson sets world record
Rudy Garcia-Tolson beat his own world record Sunday in the prelims of the 200 meter individual medley (S7).
LONDON – Rudy Garcia-Tolson broke his own world record on the 200 meter individual medley (S7) Sunday morning in the preliminaries at the Aquatic Center in Olympic Park.
The record, which Garcia-Tolson set initially in Beijing in 2008, now stands at 2:35:48.
“I'm happy with that,” he said. “That was a good morning swim. I've been training since Beijing for this and I just got to get out there and do my race. It ended up being a world record so I'm pleased with that, but the important thing is to come back tonight and swim it again.”
Garcia-Tolson’s 200m IM final will kick off the Sunday evening session at the pool, which features Americans in seven different events throughout the night.
"It's an honor to be on Team USA,” Garcia-Tolson said. “There are some great young swimmers coming up too. Watch out world – we’re coming.”
