Paralympians nominated for USOC Athlete of the Month

Three Paralympic athletes are nominated for the United States Olympic Committee’s June 2012 Athlete of the Month award. While swimmer Victoria Arlen and para-dressage rider Rebecca Hart are nominated for the female honor, Justin Zook is a male nominee.

Arlen (Exeter, N.H.) displayed several record-setting performances at the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Trials- Swimming in Bismarck, N.D., June 14-16. She broke American records in a total of six different events and also set new world records in the 100- and 400-meter freestyle races.

Hart (Unionville, Pa.) captured her fifth national title at the USEF National Para-Equestrian Championships and Paralympic Selection Trials in Gladstone, N.J. Hart won her grade division with a clean sweep in all three classes, and also finished third on her second mount. She piloted both horses to top-10 finishes in the overall standings. As a result of her terrific performance, both horses were named to the nominated entry for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

At the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Trials - Swimming, Zook (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) broke four American records and three Pan American records in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle and 50- and 100-meter backstroke events.
