COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The world's top Paralympic cyclists will return to Bend, Ore. for the 2010 U.S. Paralympics Cycling Road National Championships, June 22-24, 2010. For the second year running, the competition will be combined with the USA Cycling Juniors, U23 & Elite Road National Championships.
"We're very excited to be going back to Bend again, it's a great town with a history steeped in sport," said Craig Griffin, Associate Director, High Performance Paralympic Cycling. "To be adding a criterium and road race to the competition this year is testament to the remarkable growth of the sport due much in part to the support of Paralympic athletes from USA Cycling and organizers in Bend."
Due to continued growth and participation, the road race and criterium are being added in Paralympic categories; last year the competition only featured the team trial. The competition will feature all men's and women's disability classes, which includes handcycling, tandems, bicycles and tricycles.
"We're happy to once again have the U.S. Paralympics Cycling Road National Championships alongside other national championship divisions," stated USA Cycling's National Events Director Micah Rice. "The inclusion of these races should make for a complete and thrilling contest in Bend."
Fourteen national champion titles will be up for grabs across disciplines and genders at the 2010 U.S. Paralympics Cycling Road National Championships, and the competition is the sole selection event for the 2010 Para Road Cycling World Championships in August.
Road races - June 22
Criterium - June 23
Time Trial - June 24
Online registration information for the competition is forthcoming and will be available on USA Cycling's Web site, www.usacycling.org.
