USOC appoints Patrick Sandusky Acting Chief Communications Officer
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) today appointed Patrick Sandusky as its Chief Communications Officer (CCO). The former spokesperson and Vice President of Communications for the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid, Sandusky's Olympic experience includes key roles with two bids over the last six years and strong international sport and Olympic Movement ties. He reports directly to Acting CEO Stephanie Streeter and begins at the USOC at the end of October.
Sandusky, who was an executive on loan from Hill & Knowlton (H&K), during his time at Chicago 2016, was a core member of the bid team since its inception in 2006. He was responsible for leading and overseeing the bid's external communications initiatives, serving as the lead international media relations head as well as official spokesperson.
"We are delighted that a talent of Patrick's caliber is joining the USOC team," Streeter said. "His many years of experience with the Olympic Family through the London and Chicago bids, with sponsors of international sporting events, and his broad media background will be invaluable in assisting the USOC to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead."
Prior to his time with the bid, Sandusky was vice president of H&K's sports marketing practice. He managed large-scale, multinational communications programs for both the Chicago and London offices. In his four years at H&K London, Sandusky led 27 H&K offices around the globe working on London's bid for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In addition to his work in the Olympic Movement, Sandusky has worked on projects related to Wimbledon, World Cup, Rugby World Cup, English Premiership, NASCAR and College Football for clients such as Gillette, Nestle, Robinsons, Allstate Insurance, Gatorade and Chelsea Football Club.
"I am looking forward to the months ahead, working closely with the USOC leadership team as the organization moves forward with preparations leading into the Vancouver Games," Sandusky said.
Sandusky will serve in the position of Acting Chief Communications Officer through the Vancouver Paralympic Winter Games.
He has a strong background in sports and consumer marketing and newsroom experience as both a print and radio reporter. He attended Northern Illinois University, where he was a senior letter winner in American football.
