MANCHESTER, England--Competition is now underway at the 2009 BT Paralympic World Cup. U.S. athletes are competing in men's wheelchair basketball, cycling, swimming and track & field.
The men's wheelchair basketball team is currently 2-1, having notched wins against Great Britain and Germany and losing to defending Paralympic gold medalists, Australia.
In track cycling, Jennifer Schuble (Homewood, Ala.) and Greta Neimanas (Chicago, Ill.) finished second and third in the women's LC1/LC2/CP4 500m time trial with Schuble setting an unofficial CP4 world record. Allison Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Barb Buchan (Bend, Ore.) finished second and fourth, respectively, in the same event in the LC3/CP3 classification. Neimanas and Jones each set national records, as well.
The track & field and swimming competitions begin on Sunday, May 24.
