OSTRAVA, Czech Republic -The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team dropped a 2-1 decision to Norway in its third and final preliminary-round game at the 2009 International Paralympic Committee Ice Sledge Hockey World Championship. Team USA will face Canada in the semifinal round Thursday (May 14) at 10 a.m. EDT.
Greg Shaw fights through two Norway players.
"The team played a very strong game," said Ray Maluta, head coach of Team USA. "Unfortunately we had a two-minute lull, but I think we controlled play for most of the game and are in good spirits heading into the semifinals."
Norway opened the game's scoring at 3:39 of the first period, before doubling its lead with a power-play goal just 1:05 later. The U.S. registered five shots on Norwegian netminder Roger Johansen in the period, but was unable to find the back of the net.
After a scoreless second period, Taylor Chace (Hampton Falls, N.H.) put the U.S. on the scoreboard at 5:28 of the third frame. Team USA controlled much of the play the rest of the way, but was unable to score the equalizer.
Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) made 13 saves in the loss.
