BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Lakeshore Foundation hosted the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) Sports Education Camps for youth with visual impairments June 3rd-7th. The camps are designed to introduce youth with visual impairments to sports and recreational activities and to provide training to those demonstrating athletic potential.
Twenty-seven youth, ages 6 to 18, participated in activities throughout the week at Lakeshore Foundation and surrounding locations. Participants enjoyed a variety of sports clinics, rock climbing, kayaking, water skiing, goalball and judo.
"This was a wonderful opportunity for youth who are visually impaired throughout the state to come together in an athletic setting and exchange ideas, background and ways to participate in physical education, recreation and sports," said camp director Jen Armbruster. Armbruster is a five-time Paralympian and led the U.S. women's goalball team to a gold medal at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.
