Sled Hockey Team Named USOC Team of the Month
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--The U.S. Olympic Committee has announced the U.S. Paralympics Sled Hockey National Team is being honored as the Team of the Month for its accomplishments in the month of May.
The team won its first World Championship gold medal at the IPC Sled Hockey World Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from May 9-16. Team captain Andy Yohe (Bettendorf, Iowa) scored the gold-medal winning goal with 11 seconds left in the championship game against Norway. The U.S. won, 1-0, as goalie Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) saved all 11 shots he faced.
The U.S. Sled Hockey World Championship Team picked up another honor as Cash (Overland, Mo.), the goalie, was second in the Male Athlete of the Month voting. Cash played all 235 minutes in net for the U.S. at the IPC Sled Hockey World Championships. He allowed four goals in five games, posting shutouts against Italy and, in the gold-medal game, versus Norway. Cash finished with a .940 save percentage and a 0.80 goals-against average with 63 saves.
