SESTRERE, Italy - Following two days of heavy snow and cancellation of training and race runs, Tyler Walker (sit-ski; Franconia, N.H.) won the IPC World Cup downhill on January 21, leading five U.S. Adaptive Alpine Ski Team athletes into the top 10.

Stephani Victor (sit-ski; Park City, Utah) and Chris Devlin-Young (sit-ski; Campton, N.H.) also grabbed podiums, finishing second and third, respectively.

"It was great to finally have some speed after La Molina and a chance for redemption," Walker said. "I had run this course several times in the past and felt really confident today. Everything felt good and ended up good, so there you have it."

Walker had a screaming run to win the race, finishing 1:14.19. Devlin-young also laid down some great turns to finish 1:15.55.

"For Tyler to win today was a highlight for us. Not only did he win the race but he won the training run which showed he was mentally ready," Adaptive Alpine Head Coach Ray Watkins said. "Also, for CDY [Devlin-Young] to come back from his season ending injury in Hakuba was really special."

In the female sitting skiers class, Victor brought some heat to her to finish with a time of 1:23.58. Laurie Stephens (sit-ski; Wenham, Mass.) followed Victor in fourth place. In the female standing skiers group, Allison Jones (standing; Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed sixth with a time of 1:25.08.

Monte Meir (standing; Park City, Utah) came in 13th with a time of 1:18.58 and Brad Washburn (standing; Highland Ranch, Colo.) followed in 14th with a time of 1:19.14.

"We still have work to do as a team and will continue to focus on the process and take care of business. To hear our National Anthem today made it all worthwhile," Watkins said.
