COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. Paralympics Sled Hockey National Team returns to international competition this week, as Team USA travels to Vancouver, B.C., for the first-ever Hockey Canada Cup, set for Feb. 24-March 1.
The tournament will feature four of the world's top sledge hockey teams - Canada, Germany, Japan and the United States - and will take place at the UBC Thunderbird Arena, which is the slegde hockey venue for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.
The U.S. most recently competed in the 2009 Japan Four Nations Tournament. There, the United States garnered a second-place finish, with its only loss coming in the championship game.
After the Hockey Canada Cup, the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team will face Canada twice in upstate New York in late March. The first game will take place on Friday, March 20, at the Amherst Pepsi Center in Buffalo, with the second game taking place the following night (Sat., March 21) at the ESL Sports Centre in Rochester. The games will coincide with the National Disabled Festival, which runs from March 20-22 at the Amherst Pepsi Center. Following those games, the U.S. squad will take part in the 2009 International Paralympic Committee World Sledge Hockey Championship from May 5-17 in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
NOTES: The 2009 Hockey Canada Cup championship game will be broadcast live on TSN2 on Sunday, March 1, at 8 p.m. EST. The game will also be televised on TSN at midnight.
