Vancouver, B.C.- The USA overcame a ten point halftime deficit to defeat Canada 79-69 in the Gold Medal match of the 2009 America's Cup.
Canada dominated the first quarter leading the U.S. 18-8. Head coach Jim Glatch made some adjustments at the end of the first quarter going with Jason Nelms and Nate Hinze. Both delivered with Nelms scoring 18 points and Hinze adding 10 points and 4 rebounds. Jeremy Lade and Paul Schulte also hit double figures with 18 and 11 respectively.
The U.S. outscored Canada in the third and fourth quarter, 18-13 and 27-15 to clench the Championship. The U.S. bench outscored Canada's 61 - 26. The Americans also scored 17 points off of Canadian turnovers.
The U.S. can now focus on the 2010 World Championships in Birmingham, England where they will be joined by Canada and Mexico from the America's Zone.
