Mar 07 U.S. Falls to Norway, 3-2, at 2008 World Sledge Hockey Challenge

Nov. 21, 2008, 4:39 p.m. (ET)
CHARLOTTETOWN, Prince Edward Island - The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team dropped a 3-2 decision to Norway Thursday night in its third game at the 2008 World Sledge Hockey Challenge at the CARI Complex.

"We came out flat, but we learned from it as the game went on and played what I think was our best period of hockey since I have been involved with the team," said Ray Maluta, head coach for Team USA. "It was an awesome third period, and for the young team we have, it was a very impressive comeback."

Norway got on the board first with a shorthanded goal at 9:57 of the opening period and finished the opening stanza with a 2-0 advantage.

Norway scored the only goal of the second period, a power play marker with less than a minute to play and held a 3-0 after 30 minutes of play.

Bubba Torres (Riverside, N.J.) put the U.S. on the board with a goal off a rebound at 8:24 of the third stanza. Just 1:28 later, Jim Connelly (Galloway, N.J.) got Team USA to within a goal with a wrist shot into the top corner of the Norwegian net. The U.S. outshot Norway 11-1 in the period.

The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team returns to action Saturday (Nov. 22), when it faces Japan at 11 a.m. EST in the third-place game of the 2008 World Sledge Hockey Challenge.
