2008 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team member Greta Neimanas (Colorado Springs, Colo./Chicago, Ill.) will be honored this Saturday with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago's (RIC) Tree of Life award.
"I'm definitely honored to be even considered for the Tree of Life award. There are some big names on the list of recipients," said Neimanas. "RIC has played a huge role in my life, in making me a better person. I hope I can do the same for others."
The Tree of Life award is an annual tribute to a person or persons who have demonstrated great character, uplifted the spirits of others through accomplishment, and who have made positive contributions to the disability community through example and action.
Neimanas was a participant in the 2004 International Paralympic Academy and traveled to the Games in Athens, Greece to see Paralympic competition and meet Team USA athletes. Neimanas was so inspired by what she saw that she took up cycling upon her return home. Just four years later, Neimanas was competing at the Paralympic Games in Beijing.
