U.S. PARALYMPICS: McGrory Sets New World Record in 5,000m
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 22, 2008 IBACH, Switzerland-Today, wheelchair racer and Paralympic hopeful Amanda McGrory (Champaign, Ill.) broke her previous world record in the women's wheelchair 5,000m with a time of 11:29.95 (previous-11:39.43) at the Swiss Racing Series--Daniela Jutzeler Memorial Meet in Ibach, Switzerland. "I spoke with Adam (McGrory's coach) before the race and he encouraged me to run 'my' race,"said McGrory."I stuck to the plan and it paid off. You can't race the 5000 alone - there was a strong group of women out there today and I was defiantly reliant upon them. In the end, I felt good, and today I was the strongest one."
