U.S. PARALYMPICS: Lakeshore Foundation Honored with 2008 Amazing Partner Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 7, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-Lakeshore Foundation, an official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training site in Birmingham, Ala., has been named the recipient of the 2008 Amazing Partner Award by U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee. The inaugural award is designed to recognize a Paralympic partner organization that has made amazing organizational contributions to the Paralympic movement - amazing through innovation, impact and promotion of the Paralympic ideas."Receiving the inaugural Amazing Partner Award is a wonderful recognition of the longstanding work Lakeshore Foundation has done in support of the Paralympic movement,"said Jeff Underwood, Lakeshore Foundation President."We're proud that the work we do is helping people with physical disabilities live healthy, active, independent lives and for that to be recognized on a national level is a great honor for the entire Birmingham community."Lakeshore Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with physical disabilities through fitness, recreation, and athletics. The organization serves individuals across the spectrum with grassroots, community-based programs up to elite athletes preparing for the Paralympic Games."I can't say enough about how instrumental the Lakeshore Foundation and its outstanding staff have been in helping to promote the Paralympic movement and support our athletes,"said Charlie Huebner, Chief of Paralympics."It is with great pleasure that U.S. Paralympics acknowledges Lakeshore Foundation for the positive difference it's making in the lives of our athletes and those in the Birmingham community with a physical disability."Lakeshore Foundation has sent 36 athletes and coaches to the Paralympic Games since 1988, the most from any single organization in the United States. This year, Lakeshore Foundation anticipates sending a delegation of five staff members and as many as 11 athletes to the Games in Beijing.
