Paralympian Patty Cisneros Selected as Finalist for Women's Sports Foundation Sportswoman of the Year

Three-time Paralympian Patty Cisneros (Champaign, Ill./Lake Station, Ind.) has been selected as a finalist for the Women's Sports Foundation's Sportswoman of the Year award.

"I am so honored to be nominated.  I play a team sport and there’s nothing I could do without my teammates," said Cisneros.  "I’m happy and proud that through me the team is being recognized for its accomplishments.  I’m just 1/12 of an amazing group of women and give them a lot of credit."

In August 2007, Cisneros, as part of the U.S. wheelchair basketball team, won gold at the Parapan American Games in Brazil. In June 2008, the team placed first at the Joseph F. Lyttle World Basketball Challenge. The team also placed first at the North American Cup in July. Cisneros was nominated for the 2008 Best Female Athlete with a Disability ESPY Award.

The point guard has been a member of the U.S. women’s wheelchair basketball team since 1999 and will serve as co-captain for the U.S. team at her third Paralympic Games in Beijing.
