Stephanie Wheeler Blog - Are We There Yet???

The consumate question, right???  When you were a kid it was a staple in the vocabulary...going to relatives houses far away or going to a seemingly nonexistant vacation destination.  Well, that very accurately describes the way I feel right now.  I've been watching the Olympics non stop the past few days and I am so ready to be there!!  I see all the venues where we will compete and the bird's nest where Opening Ceremonies will be and I just keep getting more and more excited each and every time I watch TV.  And speaking of opening ceremonies....WOW!!!  I got goosebumps watching the amazing show that was put on.  If the Opening Ceremonies for the Paralympics are anything like that, then we are in for an incredible show!!

As for training, the past few weeks, I have been focusing heavy on my cardio and physical conditioning.  I have had some incredibly intense workouts that have definitely got the blood flowing and the sweat too!!  I have spent alot of time doing interval training on the UBE (upper body urgometer) and on the track in my basketball chair.  I have also been doing lots of chair skills on the court and mixing that in with shooting workouts while I'm tired and shooting free throws while I am tired.  I have still been training mainly by myself which I have been enjoying.  It makes it so much fun when we get together as a team to see everyone and it still seems pretty fresh.  It has been about 2 months since we have played a game, so constantly playing against your teammates gets repetitive sometimes, but hopefully, it will all pay off next month!  We actually have a training camp coming up this week in Colorado Springs at the training center, so it will be good to see everyone again!

Good luck to our athletes competing right now...keep making us proud and bring home the gold!!!  Until next time.....
