Bailey 12th in Pursuit
ANTHOLZ-ANTERSELVA, Italy (January 18, 2014) – Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) raced to 12th in today’s 12.5-kilometer pursuit, finishing with a time of 31:50.9 and two penalties. Bailey had today’s 5th best net time. Germany’s Simon Schempp won posting 31:20.6/+2, Jean Guillaume Beatrix (FRA) took second (31:22.1/+1), and Henrick L’abee-Lund (NOR) was third (31:25.4/+2).
"I was really happy with the race today given that I was disappointed with the last stage of the sprint yesterday," said Bailey. "I went into today's race with the sole purpose of sticking to an aggressive game plan. I would have liked to clean the last stage, but I'm happy I stuck to the plan. Next time I'll clean that last stage!"
Russell Currier (Stockholm, Maine) moved up from 60th to finish 47th (35:24.7/+4). Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) did not race due to "not feeling 100%," as he tweeted this morning. Full results from today’s race can be found here.
Susan Dunklee (Barton, VT) placed 24th (33:52.1/+5) in today’s 10k pursuit. Andrea Henkel (GER) won the race with clean shooting and a time of 31:04.5, Nadezhda Skardino (BLR) was second (31:06.1, and Tora Berger (NOR) was third (31:11.1/+3).
“Today didn't go quite as well as I had hoped, but I feel good about many parts of the race,” said Dunklee. “I kept up with Andrea, the eventually race winner, for a couple loops and kept my focus well on the range. I had a couple small snafus like a broken pole and a lost clip, but one poor standing stage is what really dropped me down the results.
Sara Studebaker (Boise, ID) finished 48th (36:10.3/+4. Extended results from today’s race can be found here.
