21st Place Finish for Bailey in Ruhpolding World Cup Pursuit
RUHPOLDING, Germany (January 12, 2014) – Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) posted another strong performance in Ruhpolding finishing today’s 12.5-kilometer pursuit in 21st place with a time of 33:59.3 and one penalty. Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen posted his second win of the weekend (32:38.2/+0), Jakov Fak (SLO) took second (32:56.2/+0), and Evgeniy Garanichev (RUS) was third (32:59.6/+1).
“I feel good about the race today,” said Bailey. “I spent a little extra time in the last stage to make sure I hit my last shot but I got the hit! There was incredibly good shooting overall from the field today which seems to be the norm for Ruhpolding over the last few years. Overall, I'm happy with this weekend coming off of the New Years cold I had. I’m looking forward to next week's races in Italy.”
Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) finished 34th today (35:05.1/+1), up 22 spots from a start at 56th. “Today was definitely one of my best races this season,” said Burke. “Unfortunately, I was starting too far back for my result to reflect the performance. In any case, it was good confirmation that my fitness and shooting are on track when I put them together on the same day. Now I am looking forward to next week’s World Cup in Italy on my favorite venue!”
Leif Nordgren (Marine, MN) finished 46th (36:29.5/+2). Extended results from the men’s pursuit are available here.
