RUHPOLDING, Germany (January 10, 2014) – Susan Dunklee (Barton, VT) raced to a 41st place finish in the 15-kilometer individual at the IBU World Cup 5 in Ruhpolding, Germany. Dunklee posted a time of 44:25.9 with three penalties, finishing 3:53.3 back from Gabriela Soukalova (CZE) winning the distance at 40:32.6/+1. Darya Domracheva (BLR) finished second (41:06.9/+2), and Veronika Vitkova (CZE) was third (41:11.2/+0). Annelies Cook (Saranac Lake, NY) finished 85th (48:30.1/+6).

“Last night's rain and an application of salt onto the course made today's tracks some of the iciest and slipperiest that I have ever raced on,” said Dunklee. “I enjoyed the challenge of experimenting with different ski techniques on the ice and adapting my skiing style accordingly. With calm conditions on the range, it was necessary to shoot nearly perfectly to place well. I hope I can move well into the points on Sunday.”

Extended results from the women’s 15k individual are available here.

World Cup racing continues in Ruhpolding tomorrow with the men’s 20k individual. Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) starts with bib #17, Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) #36, and Leif Nordgren (Marine, MN) #71. Racing begins at 6:45 am (ET) and will be webcast live here.
