RIDNAUN, Italy (January 6, 2014) – Sara Studebaker (Boise, ID) led Team USA at the IBU Cup in Ridnaun with a 9th place in today’s 7.5-kilometer sprint. With just one penalty, Studebaker finished with a time of 23:58.8, 1:07.2 back from Germany’s Vanessa Hinz, winning the distance with clean shooting and a time of 22:51.6.

“I was really happy with my race today,” said Studebaker. “After the crazy weather yesterday, it was nice having some "normal" conditions and it definitely made things less stressful. I felt pretty good skiing and was especially happy with my performance in the range in standing. It's always nice to have a good result, and getting a top-10 today gives me a boost of confidence after a little bit of a rough start with the Sprint races in December.”

Hannah Dreissigacker (Morrisville, VT) finished 13th (24:12.8/+2), Lanny Barnes (Durango, CO) was 42nd (25:27.7/+1), and Tracy Barnes (Durango, CO) finished 46th (25:53.8/+3). Full results are available here

In the men’s 10k sprint, Sean Doherty (Center Conway, NH) finished 41st (28:20.6/+2), Russell Currier (Stockholm, Maine) was 55th (28:49.9/+4), Jeremy Teela (Heber City, UT) 60th (28:53.1/+4), and Casey Smith (Winthrop, WA) was 79th (29:40.1/+2). Extended results from the men’s sprint are available here.

Racing will continue in Riduan on Saturday with the men’s and women’s individual events. A compete schedule is available here. Three women and two men will be nominated to the US Biathlon 2014 Olympic Team from the IBU Cup races in Ridnaun.
