SOCHI, Russia (February 10, 2014) – Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, N.Y.) finished 22nd ((35:37:37/+2) to lead Team USA in the men's biathlon 12.5-kilometer pursuit. Burke was 1:48.4 behind France's Martin Fourcade, who took the gold medal with a time of 33:48.6 and one penalty. Ondrej Moravec of the Czech Republic took the silver shooting clean with a time of 34:02.7. Jean Guillaume Beatrix (FRA) won bronze (34:12.8/+1)

“I was really disappointed with my race today,” said Burke. “I was really feeling empty halfway through the first loop and that made it a really tough race for me.

Conditions were tough today. The snow was super soft and made it really slow and tough going for everyone.”

Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) was 38th (36:34.8/+3), Leif Nordgren (Marine, MN) finished 53rd (39:31.4/+7). Extended results are available here

Team USA returns to the Laura Biathlon Stadium tomorrow for the women’s 10km pursuit. Susan Dunklee (Barton, VT) will start with bib #14, Sara Studebaker (Boise, ID) #44, and Annelies Cook (Saranac Lake, NY) #53. Racing begins at 10am (ET).
