Lowell finished the 2012-13 season strong with five top-10 world cup finishes, and four impressive top-15 finishes at the 2013 World Championships. It followed his breakout season in 2012, when he captured two top-five world cup finishes and ranked 14th overall. He is making his third Olympic appearance in Sochi.


Lowell is the son of Elizabeth and George Bailey, and he has a sister, Kendra. Lowell was a three-time NCAA All-American in cross-country skiing at the University of Vermont. An accomplished musician, Lowell plays in two bands (mandolin, guitar and vocals) in and around the Lake Placid, N.Y., area – a bluegrass band, Swimming With Champy, and the indie-folk group Big Slyde.
