Competing in biathlon since graduating high school in 2007, Leif made the national in 2010. Sochi will mark his first trip to the Olympics.  

Throughout his high school years, Leif trained and raced with the Nordicwerks Ski Club in Forest Lake, MN. When he was a senior in high school, he made his first Jr World Championship Team in Biathlon. After graduating high school, he jumped into training full time with the Jr National team. He spends 11 months of the year traveling around the U.S. and Europe, and trains up to six hours a day, six days a week.
 
Leif is the son of Carl and Sue Nordgren. He has two brothers, Eric and Kirk, and one sister, Sonne. Leif's hobbies include cycling, orienteering, fishing, and reading.
