OSTERSUND, SWE (November 30, 2013) – Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) raced to a third place finish in today’s 10-kilometer sprint with a time of 26:27.3 and clean shooting. Leading through the early stages of the race, Burke finished 31.3 seconds behind Martin Fourcade (FRA), posting his second win in Ostersund with a time of 25:56/0+1. Fredrick Lindstroem (SWE) took second for the host nation posting 26:02.5/+0 after a fall in the last kilometer of the race.

"I am very happy with my performance today, especially the shooting." said Burke. "My goal going into the race today was to be aggressive on the shooting range and I was able to carry that through. I was actually a little surprised to make it to the podium today with how I felt skiing. I felt like I started the race strong, but it was really tough for me in the last lap. I definitely still need some more races to reach my racing shape, so considering that I am thrilled with how things turned out. Now I am looking forward to an exciting pursuit tomorrow!"

Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) finished 14th with a time of 27:02.6/1+0,41) Leif Nordgren (Marine, MN) was 41st (27:52.6/1+0), Jeremy Teela (Heber City, UT) 87th (29:49.3/0+4), and Sean Doherty (Center Conway, NH) 89th (29:53.6 /1+2).

“I'm happy with the race today,” said Bailey. “Of course, I would have like to hit that last prone shot, but there are always a lot of "what ifs" in biathlon. I'm happy that my ski speed improved from the first race and I'm in a good position for the pursuit tomorrow.”

Extended results from today’s race are here.

Burke, Bailey and Nordgren will race in tomorrow’s 12.5km pursuit starting at 7:30am(ET). Susan Dunklee (Barton, VT) races for Team USA in the 10km pursuit beginning at 5:30am(ET). Watch both races live here.
